Hey,
I recently tried to reinstall windows onto my SONY VAIO FS295XP, the laptop does not come with any discs unfortunately so I used a slip-streamed copy from my desktop machine to install (also felt it would save time), unforunately my desktop machine has SP2 and the laptop doesn't recognise the key on the back of it as valid for the SP2 version I was trying to install, anyone know how to transfer the Base key into an SP2 key. Any help would be much appreciated as I can't download any updates due to SONY's stingy cost savings.
The service pack has nothing to do with Product Keys. The Windows XP CD MUST match the XP Product Key. If the Product Key on your Sony laptop is for Windows XP Home OEM, you must use a Windows XP Home OEM CD.
Did you even read what I wrote? What does the Product Key sticker say on your Sony laptop? If it says Windows XP Home OEM you need a Windows XP Home OEM CD. It doesn't matter what the Service Pack is.
