i have just built a new system and i am installing XP on a new WD Raptor (150gb) and i have run diagnostic tools and the drive is free of errors.

i get to random percentages when it copies the install files over and then it stops on different files. i have noticed that sometimes it is the same files, others time different files.

the image i am using has been used before. the disk is fine and i have tried a few different copies on XP also.

any thoughts?

There's also a probability that it is an optical drive problem, but if it's brand new system maybe no ..

When you mentioned image, do you mean it's a ghost image or something like that? If so, try to clean install first and see if it works ...

it is a brand new optical drive, and i have two dvd-roms hooked up, an it happens on both of them.

when i say image i am referring to an ISO of a windows XP disc. it is a multi-license copy of XP. i have used it for other systems.

ALSO, if i skip the files that are not copying it gave me a PFN_LIST_CORRUPT error.

tech info:

*** STOP: 0x0000004E PFN_LIST_CORRUPT (0x00000099, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

In this case there is a chance for hardware issue, most probably the memory. Have you done something like memtest?

Sounds like the optical drive is clashing with the hard drive. I had a similar prob with my raptors, they didnt like working with a LG DVD Writer.
