Holy Shiite, Batman!!!

$266 for an E6850 or a Q6600!!!!

Is the E6850 multi unlocked?
May 14, 2007 7:01:10 PM

Awesome find.. have to wait until then. I figure a Quadcore would go perfectly for only $266.
May 14, 2007 7:06:03 PM

Keep in mind that these prices are in 1,000 lots. Still, you should be able to choose between a X6850 and a Q6700 for about $300. Intel is DEFINITELY in it to win it with these coming prices.

Hmm a $300 Intel Quad-core or a $800 Phenom. Gee, which am I going to get..

Since it's an E and not and X, I'd say no.

Now where are the dual socket non-FB-DIMM motherboards??? I'd abstain from sex for... er... a day for one!

Look for Skulltrail. Think that's what Intel is doing for what you're looking for.

I am no fan boy, my previous system was built 3 and 1/2 years ago with an FX-51. I loved it. But how in the heck is AMD going to compete with a sub 300 Quad Core?

!E6850 is locked I think. There will be QX6850 (3GHz).

3GHz vs 2.4GHz is 25%. 4 vs 2 is 100% :D
May 14, 2007 9:10:33 PM

Well, it's all about gaming for many of us and as far as gaming is concerned E6600 is a better find then Q6600... To little apps can use take the full advantage of Quad Core at this point and that will not likely change any time soon.

Now how AMD is gonna compete VS a sub 300$ E6850 running @ 3.0 Ghz and (lets dream for a moment) overclockble to 3.8/4.0 on air is a mistery to me :)
May 15, 2007 12:33:46 AM

right now AMD has no competor the the C2D at 3GHz... much less a quad core at that speed!!!

I'd wait to see how a ~$300 Phenom compares (esp in overclocking). ;)
May 15, 2007 4:48:19 AM

Wtf?? Damnit, I don't want to wait that long! I guess I'll still get my xeon 3060 at the end of the month as planned :(  Nice price cuts though! If only nVidia would make similar cuts now... GTX for $300 anyone? :p
May 15, 2007 5:23:03 AM

Ninja, Tanker and Darious, yeah, I do want a dual socket really bad, but then again, that lust cannot possibly compare to my desire for the "original" socket...
May 15, 2007 10:46:26 AM

hello 6850 :p  good job i can wait!

Could it be... or am I just hallucinating... that the reason for these precipitous drops on July 22 are because they expect to get some Penryn silicon on the street by then??? 8O

I don't understand the pricing otherwise. I have a hard time believing their yields on .65 so good that they can sell the 3GHz 6850s for only $266? There has got to be a lot of demand at that price point. BTW, the Penryn NDA are reported to drop on July 15. Suspicious enough?

Penryn in July? I haven't been this excited since Charlize Theron broke into my house, stripped down and poured Mazola all over her body! 8O

Nice find. Intel is clearing stock to start building up stock of 45nm around August. 45nm by xmas must be on track. I may upgrade to a cheap <$100 kentsfield next year.

Actually, you can make a lot of profit selling computer chips for $266! For my money I'd never pay more than $350 for a cpu, and I'm rich enough to pay whatever. It's just....too much money to pay when it's above $350. Sensible then IMO is to price top chips in that $300-$350 range, so as to increase *overall revenue*. You try to get people to jump in and upgrade because that glamourous chip is in reach. The moderate price attracts *new* buyers who would have waited. A more rapid upgrade cycle, more revenue for Intel. It's economics. I think all prices above $400 are only temporary prices to take advantage of enthusiasts lacking a lot of financial good sense.

yea, looks like they are clearing out old Conroe/Kentsfield inventory to make room for Penryn- Wolfdale/Yorkfield...., I got my credit card cleared out....lets go, where they at!

You do have pictures of her then to back up those claims. Penny in July kind of sucks the wind out of AMD's Barcelona sails. (Pun intended)

Oh yeah... there is gonna be a serious sucking sound in July, no doubt about that! Goodbye stock price!
May 15, 2007 6:52:51 PM

Hmmm kentsfield for $266 or penryn that is the question. I think I will wait until augustish before I dump my E4300. However, I will upgrade before crysis. :D

4GHz quad core on air anyone?

I really want to upgrade my graphics card but that requires a PSU upgrade almost, damn it.
May 15, 2007 6:54:51 PM

Looks, to me like the quad cores and a good cooling solution may be the way to go, unless the 1333 FSB chips OC better than I think they will.

4 cores @ 3ghz for 266, or 2 cores @ 3ghz for 266.

$114.50 e4300 @ 3ghz, or $266 Q6600 @ 3ghz, or $266 e6850 @ 3ghz.
Tough one.

Anyone think the 1333FSB chips will OC as well as the current ones?

May 15, 2007 7:03:35 PM

There is no reason to expect them to clock worse than the 1066 parts, but your percentage gain will decrease. My bet is you will see the same top end clocks (3.6-3.8ish).
May 15, 2007 7:26:20 PM

I wonder how much the regular Conroes will be.

I want to imagine a E6320 at $120, E6420 at $140, and a E6600 at $175!
May 15, 2007 7:27:01 PM

When I bought my e6300 in early september last year I was thinking about a CPU/MB upgrade in 1,5-2 years but given the upcoming price cuts and the probability of penryn coming to market so soon ... A revision of my plans to say the least. One thing that makes me wonder is the price premium on the first penryns that come to market and their price/performance ratio against kentsfields and conroes. Christmas will be early this year.

Puttin' the swerve on this thread. . . . but do you have any overscan problems with your Westy? Do you use the DVI or PC input? What ver drivers you using? Purevideo on Board? Inquiring minds want to know . . .

I've got a sweet W4207 720p but I have to *Powerstrip* that sucka 'cause the overscan is so friggin' bad . . . .

Why pay more than $10 above the coming price? But for me personally, an E6320 is worth about $70. Just an interesting subjective measure.

More subjective pricing:

x2 3800 65W $50
x2 5600 $170
x2 6000 $180

e6320 $70
e6600 $180

q6600 $280

...i hate you. All i've had to keep me company for the past few nights is playing with debian based linux :(

I also wonder what will happen to the cheaper C2Ds. With the E4400 at $113 the others will either fall into line or sell out.

I really need to get my e4300 up and actually running so I can enjoy it (and hit top 2% of FAH which is my summertime goal). I'm loosing my patience with the persistent lack of user interface and ubiquity of bad instructions that is advanced linux usage...

Look for Skulltrail. Think that's what Intel is doing for what you're looking for. Has it been confirmed that skulltrail will take unbuffered DDR2?
May 15, 2007 10:32:59 PM

Flasher702, you just gotta get out more. You see the bottom left side of your screen where it says START? There's a way to STOP it too. Then go to a good bar, walk up to a hottie and say "you are so incredibly attractive, I'd love to make love to you tonight." 9 will slap you. You'll score the 10th. Guaranteed, or double your money back.

PETEvsDRM, yeah, it's more or less a constant occurrence. Although I had to put double locks on the doors whenever Lindsay Lohan is in town. She is just too nasty for me.

BaldEagle, my sources within AMD tell me that they'll be doing a Christmastime special marketing teamup with McDonalds: An X2 with every HappyMeal.

cwj717, I was pretty sure that all the scoop on Skulltrail was non-reg. I certainly hope it is! You can get reg server dual socket boards for Xeon right now, so who cares?

I hope so too. My Xeon system has really bad memory performance... 3GB/sec with dual channel DDR2 667, thats only about %30 efficient.
May 15, 2007 11:02:55 PM

Generally Skulltrail has been promoted as a gamer's and enthusiast's platform, so it would be very hard to believe if it showed up as a reg 771. Now a non-reg 775... YUM! My MasterCard is yearning and aching all over...
