I am trying to recover files from a damaged PC. It's an Acer Aspire 5920, which had Windows Vista installed. I created a Xubuntu boot disk, and am able to boot up from the CD. According to the instructions I followed, there should be an icon on the desktop called "xxgig" where xx is the size of the hard drive. However, I don't see this icon. Is the c: drive too damaged to read?

Sorry for being vague, I was following instructions for Xubuntu installation from a web article. At any rate, I got this figured out. Moral of the story - in xubuntu, "FileSystem" is the hard drive. I thought it would be a separate icon on the desktop. I'm all set now....thanks very much for the quick response.
