Hello all,

Me and my roommate both have Antec NeoHE 550w power supplies in our computers. Here are the specs of both.

My system:
Intel Xeon 3040 @ 3.01ghz (7x430mhz) @ 1.40v (1.45v to NB and 1.60v to I believe the MCH. Im not at my comp so I cant tell) w/ arctic freezer 7 pro
2x1024mb of G. Skill 6400 @ 860mhz, 2.2v
ABIT AB9 Pro Motherboard
3x120gb, SATA 7200rpm, 8mb cache hard drives (dual boot for windows vista and XP on 2 of them and a third for storage)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Sound Card
2 Optical Drives, DVD-Rom and DL DVD-RW (Both lite-on)
TV Capture card and an Xtra network card
Currently have an X1900XTX in it (obviously will be taken out)
and floppy all in an Antec P180 Case

My Roomates computer: All stock speed and voltages:
AMD 5600+
Antec Sonota Case (probably spelled incorrectly)
4gb (4x1024mb) DDR2 667mhz CLS5
GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Motherboard
2 optical drives, same as mine
1 floppy drive
Creative X-FI Sound card
2x250gb SATA 7200rpm, 16mb cache hard drives
Capture card w/ an xtra network card as well
an his current video card he will remove is an X1950XT 256mb

So the question is. Will any of these 3 cards work fine in our systems (with these power supplies) and especially mine and not have to change my OC? If I get an 8800GTS it will be the 640mb BFG with the 50mhz OC on the GPU, he will be buying the 2900XT because he will not buy nVidia, and I am just curious about the GTX as I am pretty sure it is similar to the R600 in power though better in performance. I am just tryin to weigh all of my options here. Thx in advance for your help.

Best,

I read that the 2900 can use a regular PCIe power as well, so he shouldn't need an adapter. Am I on crack? *searching for proof now*

I've seen that too but not sure. Just seams odd that is has the connector but doesn't need it.
Found it...
One is a standard 6-pin auxiliary connector (2x3) but the other is a new 8-pin 2x4 connector that is part of the PCI-Express 2.0 spec. The 8-pin connector is not required for default operation of this video card however, but two 6-pin (2x3) power cables are. The 8-pin power connector on the video card is backwards compatible with a 6-pin plug. You need to plug in two 6-pin power cables to run this video card. If however you want to overclock, you will need to plug in one 8-pin and one 6-pin power cable. ATI Overdrive application overclocking is physically disabled with two 6-pin power cables. The driver will detect what kind of power the video card is receiving and not allow you to overclock unless you have that 8-pin and a 6-pin plugged in. Third party apps, such as Powerstrip, are currently limited as well to being usable only with the 6-pin and 8-pin connected.

Thx for the help guys, I just noticed that come july Intel will be making another price drop. I will be purchasing the Q6600. Quad core is going to take up more power and I plan to run this @ 9x333mhz (3ghz), so do you still think the power supply will be able to handle it as I am pretty sure the power requirement of quads is quite a bit higher do they not? Sry to be a pain, just making sure...PSU's are my worst area of knowledge when it comes to computers!
