Hi - I've been using Vista x64 Ultimate for several months and last week, upgraded to SP1 (windows update offered it). Now, I've noticed a problem where I cannot open multiple files (using explorer) at the same time if they are of different type.
Example 1 : I select a .txt file and a .doc file at the same time (using mouse and ctrl key) - and I hit the enter key. Nothing happens. (if I select each file individually and then try to open them, the files open without any problem) (I can delete these two files together)
Example 2: I select two .txt files (or two .ppt files or two .pdf files... same extn) and hit enter - both files open as expected.
I've searched the web and haven't found this symptom anywhere else (some have issues with selecting multiple files, but not for opening files of different types).
Any suggestions on how this could be fixed?
Thanks!
You use Avast?? As for me, if I select 2 word docs and Right click instead of enter the topmost default action in bold is "Open" which is what enter does. However when I choose a txt + doc the topmost bold default action is "Scan selected areas for viruses" which it does but so quick you cant see.
Let me know if im not being clear.

I do not have SP1 and this doesn't work for me. Is this really a problem? Honestly, I have never even tried doing this. I don't really know why you would, but to each his own.
I think it used to work before SP1 - I use this method to select and delete downloaded whitepapers (.doc), exe(s), pdf(s) etc.
I use Norton AV, but I used that even before SP1, so I'd guess that is not what is causing the problem.
(I have XP Pro on another machine and it works as expected - it allows me to select any combination of files (any type) and open them by using the enter key
