I recently brought a Sony KDF-42WE655 (42" rear projection TV) with an
HDMI port. Purchased a DVI to HDMI cable for connection the computer
to the tv set. However, having problems with the output. I have two
computers and three video cards I'm testing on. Video card 1: ATI
9800XT, NVIDIA FX 5600, NVIDIA Ti 3000. I can't get any output at all
with the NVIDIA cards (I have preset the starting resolution at 800 x
600 at 60Hz - i.e. lowest you can go). With the ATI card I can get
good screen resolution but about 1 inch of the left side and part of
the bottom task bar are off screen. I can adjust with the tv set
controls but still have some part of the desktop cut off. In addition,
when I try to play games on the TV I get directx errors on some games
and not on others (i.e. Doom3 works but Sid Myers Pirates! won't) My
questions are:
1. Are there any special secrets to using computer output on these
TV's? Do only certain brands work?
2. Any tricks to getting windows desktop to size correctly on these
types of displays?
3. Why would the monitor output matter with regards to directx output
or why would some games not run?

Hi
I have a medion pc with a 9800xl graphics card (similar to your 9800xt i
think) - and I am having exactly the same problems with the tosh 46" dlp tv
here in the uk.
Connect up through the pc input and its brilliant - but go from dvi on pc to
hdmi on tv and i cant get it to work WHICH IS A SHAME COZ PC INPUT ONLY
GIVES ME A 4:3 Desktop or pic and does not utilise the whole screen..
There is a box to click on the graphics card drive to force 720 and 1080
mode - which i did and got a pic but it was terrible!

Try using Powerstrip. The new version has some features that make it easier
to fit your desktop on the screen without too much work.
