About to set up a network in the house, want a set up that's going to let me game smoothly (FPS's, not MMO's). Preference is for a wireless network for convenience, but not at the expense of finding out the gaming experience is bad.
Should I be avoiding wireless? I've read a few times now that people are finding random frequent pauses and stutters in play. Hard to tell if that's the norm or the exception. Appreciate if you could reply with your experiences, good or bad!
I use a DI-634M router and I have to say it depends on your distance from your router and wireless conditions. At my appartment when surrounded by 7 wireless networks at about 30 ft from the router sometimes it caused issues. At my parents house with the same router at 20 ft away I had almost full signal and could hold 40 mbps. Seemed to me about the same as the wired connection since my DSL doesn't break 3 mbps. If you check the air waves and see lots of networks I suggest wired to be on the safe side.
