I'm trying to install XP pro on my computer with a new Promise SATA controller with a new WD HDD attached. I tried to hit f6 many times and it just continues to start the installation process. The keyboard works, because I can access the BIOS, enter into normal installation (of course until it says that the hdd isn't there) and go into ASR (F2). I've tried several keyboard using usb and ps2 and still nothing.

I have an ASUS A7n8x-Deluxe. I just installed a Promise SATA300 TX4 and a Western Digital Caviar SE WD800JD 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive. The Controller's bios appears just before the DMI pool and shows all the SATA drives including the new one so I know that the controller works.

I've taken a look at the following pages and have not given me any answers:

I appreciate your help.

What exactly are you trying to do?
Im not sure what F6 does in the setup process.
If you are trying to get to the startup options eg safe mode etc you need F8.

During the Windows installation, hitting F6 allows you to load additional hard drive controller drivers from floppy. With some of the newer controllers these is required since Windows wouldn't see the hard drive without the driver.

Use a program like nlite to embed the promise driver in the windows installation. Your going to have to do some research but its not hard
