Im trying to install vista on a new comp. I put in the disk, the sata dvd drive reads it fine. I click install and it says a driver is missing for my cd/dvd drive and ask me to install it. My sata dvd drive, asus e616a3t, did not come with a disc and I cant even find drivers for it on the asus website. Little help??

Are you in a operating system when you are doing this or are you inserting the disk prior to boot.

Im sure you probably know this but be sure that the bios are set so that the cd boots first and then the hdd then insert the disk and reboot.

Also if you have onboard raid make sure that the drive is not connected to a predefined raid array.
Im not positive as I havent used raid in a long time but I think some of the newer boards can be set for raid from the bios. Maybe someone else could give more info on that.

On my board the cd/dvd is connected to sata port 3

Also please provide your mobo type maybe the answer lies there.

I figured it out. Both my hdd and dvd-rom were plugged into the blue ports on the mobo, an intel D975X, causing the dvd drive to not work for whatever reason. Plugging them into the black ports worked. Thanks for the reply though. Intel doesnt distinguish between the two in their instructions, which suck. Btw, you only have to plug in the 4 pin power plug into the mobo, with the 2x4 and 2x12, when you are using high wattage pci-e cards right? I think that is what intel instructions were saying, im not sure.
