OK I have been using IE 7 for a long time now ony my Vista 64 and about a month ago every once in a while it would freeze/hang up, I'd just ctrl+alt+del and kill it and restart the program not thinking anything of it seeing as it happend so infrequently.

Well bout a week ago it started getting kinda annoying about once or even twice a day it would happen... the problem was still livable at the time. In the past 2 days it has gotten worse happening 20-30 times a day making using the internet virtually impossible.

I upgraded ran CCcleaner, AVG anti virus, and Spybot Search & Destroy all of them found stuff which they erradicated. I also installed IE 8 beta 2 thinking that might fix it, yet it has not fully fixed it. It's not happening as much as it did before I did all that but it has happend twice in the last hour already... so It's improvement but not what it should be...

Things like this dont just happen for nothing and it seems like all the things I did helped yet the problem still exists

Please help

this is the most recent problem report... I can also post the IE7 problem reports if you'd like

Honestly, it just sounds like good ole IE to me. Use firefox, Google Chrome is also alright but its kind of a system hog.

Only one thing you can depend on IE for and that is to fail.

This isnt the greatest option, but it fixed mine after about a year with kids
continual use.
You will have to reset a thing or two that you havent thought about in awhile, but it easy.

first goto tools|manage add ons and delete all unneeded ones.
Then goto tools|options|advanced|reset
Also goto where temp internet files are stored and delete all.
The simple clean (history) doesnt clean the images and some other stuff.

Been having the same problem with IE 7 freezing up to 15 times a day.. This is happening on a top end desktop machine (fresh OS Install) and also a Acer Aspire laptop. I've tried all the supposed fixes regarding Adobe Flash and other IE add ons. But the problem persists :(

Same trouble to me but i already solved it. Oh, this post a little bit old...what i care.
Steps:
-never try any beta if u want to take risk.
-unnistall IE and reinstall it(through add and remove program).
-then just keep the IE as it is.

*use other browser:
-Firefox(nice,beautiful,customizing is able ,safety but source hogging and need some tweak to fasten it)
-Google Chrome(new,revolution and source hogging)
-Opera(fast,light,sleek and simple but less safety feature and customizing)

I reccommend opera if u have an old PC like me. It faster when u tweak it, a lot faster. Wait, u are using vista.......

It is really too bad that nobody can answer the question. People all over the internet are saying the same thing. It is not the addons! It is IE. I upgrade too. To downgrade will not fix the problem as the problem was in IE7 also... that's one of the reasons we upgraded. I went in and fixed the registry MaxConnection blah blah... helped for about a day. How about nobody respond to this unless they know what the problem really is. My guess is everyone who responds will say something like... oh... ah... I don't know. Then... shut up! The rest of the people who will respond will bash me for being fed up with the geeks who think they have to share their 2 cents worth as if we care that you personally don't know... just shut up. Any responses should be a definitive solution. The only other posting allowed should be... I agree! Done. Think about it, most of the people writing about having the problem already know about firefox and opera and a kazillion other browsers. We also now that we should be running linux... shut up or offer a solution.

This thread is from February, six months ago. The OP is no longer monitoring for a solution and that is beside the point that you have nothing to offer in the way of knowing anything about being on the internet. Take you own advice:

While taking all this in, apply your obviously superior skills at the internet figuring this mind boggler out. And thanks a million for your valuable input.

Well said badge, some people can't help but dribble.

In computing troubleshooting there is a process of elimination, in simple terms for PAG, a sequence of steps you follow to eliminate possibilities until a solution is reached. (I kinda get the feeling the simple explanation will be over their head)

I've seen numerous discussions concerning this one and I have addressed it a few times. Bear in mind that this is just one solution to a problem that may have numerous causes, however if you've been dealing with this issue, then you'll know it's worth looking into.

Problem:
If you have upgraded your browser from IE 6 to IE 7 -Or from IE 7 to IE 8, you should also be looking into the add-ons that you installed when you had the older versions of Internet Explorer.

The companies who created the add-ons doesn't always upgrade them when Microsoft releases its new version of IE. So there's always a chance of some add-ons to be incompatible with the new version of the Internet Explorer.

Solution:
In the Internet Explorer: Go to Tools => Internet Options => Programs (Tab) and then click on 'Manage Add-ons'. From the list of add-ons, disable all add-ons except for those in the Microsoft Publisher list.

One example of a known problem with add-ons is Skype's add-on. If you have it , remove and get the latest from the Skype's web site.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the problem still persists after doing this then here are some trouble-shooting steps you may try :

1. Run your anti-virus and an anti-spyware, to check for malware infections. MSE is a good freeware AV from Microsoft.

2. Clear Cache. Or else run your Junk Cleaner or CCleaner. In IE 7 or 8, click Tools > Internet options > Security > Reset all Zones to Default level

3. If still you find your IE giving problems, close it and run IE (No Add-ons). This opens up the browser without loading any add-ons, toolbars or plug-ins.

4. Run sfc /scannow and at the end reboot if asked for. This will replace corrupted system files if any.

5. In Internet Options, go to Advanced Tab and click on Reset tab. Restart IE. This step deletes all temp files, disables any add-ons, plug-ins, toolbars and also resets all changed settings to default. Although this is a quick-fix, you will have to re-install the add-ons. The settings which are affected by this are mentioned here.

Cheers !
