I just switched my motherboard and CPU and when i transfered my hard drive over from my old computer, it always hangs at the "vista boot loader" message and would not start. I have tried clearing the MBR and even wiping out the whole hard drive sector-by-sector with KillDisk before doing a clean install.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this and what the cause is? Is it something in my BIOS?
And no, this is not a legit version of vista. It's the one that imitates a Dell's BIOS before booting or something and you can see the text for it... but now even after re-installing, i don't even see that.

P.S. The RTM SP1 was installed on the drive before swapping my motherboard and CPU, and it was working fine with my old motherboard and CPU.
It has to be hardware related since wiping the entire drive would not fix this problem right? But what specifically is causing it and is there any way around it?
------------------------------Which Chip? Well, it depends on which set of thieving b@stardz you choose to support: The ones who use insider trading to enrich themselves while running their company into the ground, or the ones who illegally pay vendors to not support the first group.

oh come on... i read the thing about Microsoft publicly announcing a registry edit that gets around the vista activation ...so I don't think they really care if people like me who don't use my computer for work and make $$ to use a pirated version right?? they probably only care if businesses use a non-legit version and make millions of dollars with it without paying Microsoft for using their OS. Please help me fix this!! pleassee!

you should write them an email, tell them what you're doing, and ask them if they care. let us know how it goes....
buy a new HDD, install it and then install your copy of windows.
Then replace your HDD and read it.
You couldnt possibly expect to replace all that equipment and expect windows to work.
Just because you transfer a working copy of windows on a HDD to another computer will never work.
On a personal note if as your moniker says DR. we would expect more from you.
If you read of the registry edit to fix this you should have in the voice of the operator "Please Make A Note Of This."
Ok thanks, Mr. McGroin. I will try that. I'm building a computer for my parents anyway so I will just give them my old hard drive because I don't think they would be able to adjust to vista that well lol
