Chkdsk found strange errors on C: (index entry and (MFT) bitmap)

While I was watching a video my pc froze, so i had to turn it off, when windows XP booted it ran a chkdsk on c: which reported the following errors.


One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You
may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended
that you continue.
Windows will now check the disk.
Index entry ntuser.dat.LOG of index $I30 in file 0x278c points to unused file 0x2858.
Deleting index entry ntuser.dat.LOG in index $I30 of file 10124.

Windows has made corrections to the file system.

I'm running a

Athlon 64 x2 4800+
Gigabyte M52S-S3P
Asus GeForce 8600 GT (PASSIVE COOLING)

on Windows XP Sp2

What could of caused these errors?

A corruption in the file system or a failing hard drive.
