  Don't know if this is the right place to post this topic.  I don't know too much about networking but would like to connect two computers together to play fear or any other game.  What do I need to make this work.

in normal.  need 1 cable to connect 2 pc plug in lan port ( need some info about how to do 1 cable to connect 2 pc, 'cause it's  difference with normal way)
 
2nd. need 2 cables and a switch
the same way above but its connect through switch ( this way offers more stable)
 
2 ways above, u have to make sure its the same workgroup.
 
last, need 2 Lan cables, router 4 port  
the same 2nd but through router ( router as a main server ) u just need to setup router
 
u need a technician to help u built it if u have little infor about it.

the easiest way ive found to do it is using a wireless router ... connect to the network the router makes through your wireless connections, then just play over LAN UDP/IP  connection, if you dont have wireless cards then the other easy way is to get two ethernet cables and hook each computer up to a router and play LAN...I have never been able to get a direct connection between computers working but you are welcome to try that too... or you could connect both of them to the internet at the same time and create a private game.. hope this helps

if you get a cross over cable you can plug it between the two computers ethernet ports and then assign each an ip address in the same subnet.
 
if you do this with a reguler straight through ethernet cable it will not work.
