I paid $30 for Vista Home Basic Upgrade on ebay and have been using it for 2 months. Vista's UI looks a little nicer than XP's, but that's about all. Sure it's a bit more secure, but I keep my system locked down anyway. And Vista seems to take about a 20% performance toll in terms of gaming performance. I'll dust off Vista and reinstall it the next time I upgrade my CPU/video card in a year or so.
I have a new 250 gig Maxtor Diamond Max drive ($55 plus free shipping) coming from Newegg any day now, so as soon as it gets here I'll reload XP on it. It's replacing a 40 gig Maxtor (that's completely full).
I wouldn't say I am skipping Vista, because I will probably go back to it in a year or so. I did, however, skip both Win2K & ME and went from 98SE to XP in about 2003 which was a huge leap.
XP's comfortable -- like an old sweater or worn out pair of jeans.

A 3d mark that is 300 points belows xp isnt enough of a reason for me, you folks have got to keep in mind xp has been around for quite sometime and has been patched updated to the point where it is now, vista has only been around for a short time, and still has some work to be done. I run my vista daily, and have xp as a failsafe for now. I can say quite honestly i dont see any performance diffrence in gaming from my xp system to the vista one. But hey mebbe im one of the few people who arent having problems. I was also patient though and waited till sp1 was released and the support for my games was finally there.
