I searched Toms site and the Asus site but I didn't find anything close to what I want to know. So here it goes for you honest opinions and comments.
My current system is
A8n SLI deluxe
185 opteron
2 gigs ram (4x512mb) value ram
1 video card EN7800GTX
1 Raptor, 1 western digital 7200 sata
650 watt silverstone power supply
I am plaining to get Vista 64 bit, proabably Home Premium. I am plainning to update the following hardware for this.
1 video card 9800GTX
4 gigs of ram (4X1gb)
1 new raptor for Vistas own boot drive.
Do you think that would be all?? The PSU should handle it. I assume the 9800GTX can work with an Nforce 4 chipset. I am plainning to keep the XP install I got because allot of my software will not work in Vista. They have Vista drivers 32 and 64 bit for all onboard devices for the motherboard So i am covered with the sound chip and stuff.

VISTA 64 will run most of your software without issue. The OS is equipped to accomodate 32 bit programs. You may experience some very old hardware, like a printer or old PCI device that will not work with VISTA 64, but you will be pleased to find much of you softare will work. The office 2000 Small Business software I got with a Windows 98 system in '97 works on VISTA 64. Four gigs of RAM should work well with VISTA 64, the 1 GB you have would be stressed to keep up with Superfectch and the system's RAM demands. You can also add a 4 GB flash drive and utalizre it with Readyboost.
I forgot to mention I also have an ASUS A8N-SLI Premium MB setup. I use Windows XP on that system setup in an office machine. Nvidia.com proviodes the latest NF4 VISTA 64 system drivers here.
Thanks guys for your feedback. With the raptor , you are right what is an extra 15 milliseconds loading time.
In regards to the software I have found that some publishers like for example, Intuit Quiken Property Manager Softare v2.2, they actually force you to buy a new versoin for Vista v2.5. I know they could have just patched it but the XP version is working fine. Also I have a DAK industries unit to convert cassete audio tapes/records to CD and I think the software actually has 16 bit instructions. I will be using the XP for that stuff since It works good and I don't want to mess it up.

I would wait a bit to buy just to see the performance and price changes related to the launch of ATI's 4XXX family of video cards; I think the launch is planned in somewhere in June. If you want to buy now, I suggest you go for a 8800GTS instead of the 9800GTX, the performances are probably less than ~5% apart for 25-50% price difference. Save the money to upgrade MB+CPU+RAM in a year.

If you are going with Vista 64 then spend a few extra bucks and get 8gb of memory. Having more than 4 gb is one of the main attractions of Vista 64.
I think his board supports only 4GB which means it might not even support 2GB modules.

If the PSU you have is this one, you have 42A for the 12V rail which should be enough even for SLI (EVGA say 30A for dual 8800GTS).
