Not sure whats going on but I have Vista 32bit Home Premium installed and I want to switch back to XP. The problem I am having is when I go to install XP (the screen where you can partition and install XP), its not recognizing all of my hard drive size. I have a 500GB and its only recognizing 130GB. In Vista, it recognizes all the space but not with XP. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I forget the reason, but SP1 will fix that. Go ahead and install and then run all the updates and then play around with the partitions and formatting
edit: I'm guessing that your using a old install disk from 8 years ago when hard drives had a max capacity of 40 gig. You could google V-lite and slipstreaming to get the service packs onto a disk but I don't know if it is worth it.

If you have another functional PC with a CD Writer, it might also be a good idea to slipstream the latest Service Pack on the installation CD (the link is for SP2, but it should be the same for SP1 or SP3). Would save you the trouble if you have to reinstall it later and will fix your installation "bug".

So if I slipstream XP with SP2, will it recognize all of my hard drive space when I install XP or do I still have to go to Disk Management and work from there? All I want is all of my hard drive space recognized when I do a fresh install. Thanks
It should, my slipstreamed SP2 never gave me any weird issues.

I have been told if you are going Vista to get 64 bit only not the 32 bit, I am getting a HD drive today and Vista 64 bit ultimate. Allready got all my drivers ready. It took a week to locate all my drivers but I am ready now. Keeping XP on my old raptor.
I used to get told the opposite for the longest, "you dont want vista 64, no driver support". I waited a year and got Vista 64 Ultimate and its flawless on my rig. I have XP on another system and wouldnt even consider installing it back on my main rig. I dont see a reason to load old software on a high end rig unless you are going to dual boot.
If you have an older system then it makes more sense. Software compatability issues would be the only other reason.
