I have a Sony Vaio. I recently installed Vista on it. And now whenever I close the lid, it does go to sleep but the battery still depletes. I tried looking into power settings but cant find whats the problem.

Check all of your device properties - make sure wifi and nic goes offline when using the battery, check their man. website for driver updates for Vista, etc. Also, try hibernate versus sleep and see how much of a difference it uses - sleep intentionally uses a small amount of power while hibernate uses zero.

It worked after I set it on hibernate. I guess it was on hibernate before.

Sleep mode still drains the battery because it still requires power. Hibernate doesn't require power, so it won't drain the battery.
