I am using winXP sp2 esition in my AMD64 bit machine but nowdays its getting hanged up when i start it first then i need to use Alt+Cnt+Del to get the task manager n then logg off the user n login again then it works i am not sure what is the problem with my PC i have formated n reinsalled the full HD i am using 3GB of Ram so its not an mem prob also. Can anyone suggest me what will be the reason? Is is some virus?
You could be dealing with a corrupt user profile. Try rebooting into Safe Mode and create a second user profile that you can use to test logging in. You will need the local Administrator password when you reboot into Safe Mode. You can create the additional user through Computer Management (Start | Run | compmgmt.msc), selecting "Local Users & Groups" and then "Users", and then creating a new user account. Set the new user to be part of the Administrators group as well.
Reboot the computer, and then the system *should* prompt you to decide which user to log in as, and log in with the new account and see if you still have a lock-up issue on the new user profile.
