Ok.. so I'm about to build a new computer, and I've been thinking about running that one as well as my old one (to do redundant stuff/macro games/whatever in the background).. which makes me think that a KVM switch would be best...

Is this the best way to go? What's a good switch? I'm completely in the dark on this.

What do you mean by redundant stuff, and background tasks? The two PC's will operate as completely separate systems so whatever is running on the old one is just running there while your screen is set to the other. But it could be good for burning movies or running Folding@home, etc. while you use the new system to play the latest games.
