Hello all,
I'm very much a newbie here - not only to this NG but to HDTV. I recently
purchased a 155 cm (61" ) Samsung LCD Rear Projection TV and am very happy
with it, but have noticed that there is a greenish tinge, particularly in
dark scenes, and particularly in shadows (although not really in shadows
cast by bright sunlight). This tinge is not at all apparent in brighter
scenes. It's noticeable regardless of the input - DVD, satelite, or normal
free-to-air TV (whether HD or SD). All the other colours seem fine - even
the greens are usually okay in brightly lit scenes. It's not unbearable by
any means, but I'm kind of stumped by it. I was wondering if anyone might
have some idea what might be causing this and if (and how) it can be
corrected? I've tried playing with the various colour settings, but with
only marginal success. Could this be just a feature of LCD rear pro?

What is your model #. a couple have an internal reflection problem in the
light box as light reflects off some of the metal parts. The fix is to
install black felt material that absorbs light not relects it.

Would that cause these types of symptoms? Ie...greenish tinge in shadows
in dimly lits scenes?

Liquid crystal displays in general are not as good as other kinds of
displays at producing a good black. On a lot of direct-view LC
displays, such as computer monitors, the blacks can look distinctly
blue. On others, depending on maker and model, they can look pretty
decently black. You may have some internal problem such as
reflections, as others have described, or it may just be that that's
the best your particular liquid crystal unit can do at being black.

Thank you for this. The odd thing, though, is that the blacks are actually
quite black. It's the shadows that are greenish - and usually only shadows
in scenes that are lit by electric light - that is, not shadows that are
cast by the sun. Computer generated images, with computer generated shadows,
are all fine too. It's weird - as if it for some reason gets the colour of
electric light slightly wrong.

I had the same problem with my SONY 42in" 610. Tech guy came over and said
could be dust or syrofoam on lens. BULLSHIT!. I went back to store and had
them replace TV with newer 655.

So you had an experience with service that was ineffective and unacceptable
and you went back for another set of the same manufacturer from the same
dealer? What will you do if this one has a problem?
