I'm wondering which would be better for gaming. I will be playing games in 1900x1200. I can buy one 8800gtx768 or two 8800gts320 in sli for approx. the same amount of money. The SLI has a slight advantage over the single GPU in terms of FPS and overall benchmark scores. But I'm curios if that slight advantage is worth the headache that seems to be inherit in running SLI. The OS will be Vista, I'm not sure if that will matter.

Any opions,feedback, etc.. are welcome.

Probably the single gtx.
If you run the 320mb gts,s in sli you still only have 320mb,s of memory.

as a rule you always want the best single card you can afford, some games dont require Sli to run max settings yet, at least not any i play at 1920 x 1200 and i have a the Gts 640 version. Fear,Bf2142,COH all run maxed settings just fine at that res. Dont get the 320mb version if you play over 1600 x 1200, youll need the extra memory over that, go with the GTX then upgrade later, with step up from EVGA.

Go for the best single card like everyone says. You won't rely on SLI support, and you have the option to go to SLI later. The reason SLI doesn't add memory is that both cards have to have all the same data in their memory, trying to share the memory would be too slow.

Generally a single good card is better, so go for the GTX.

In particular, you don't even have the choice because Vista drivers for the 8800 cards do not support SLI yet. I'm way too lazy to find the link again, but I posted this info on two threads already this week. You can go to www.nvidia.com and try to download the drivers for 8800 cards for Vista (64 bits) and you'll find the details, that's where I got them. I assume the info is up to date since it's right where you'd get the latest drivers. Good thing you asked

Edit: forgot to mention - if you use XP you will get about 5 fps more than on Vista, all other things being equal. Also, on Vista you might find some bugs in the drivers, nVidia has even set up a site for people who are willing to help by reporting bugs. Details on the same page as above...

Yay, they fixed it already!!! I should have checked the page again instead of giving out 48-hour old info, sorry.

OP: OK, give them another two weeks or so until they fix the beta and then it might be safe to try SLI. I still think you're better off with one GTX though.

I think I'll wait for some benchmarks for the 8900 GTX, and some price info. It's supposed to be out in June 8O

You'll probably get more use out of the GTX like everyone has said.
