Hi guys, im thinking about building a computer with windows vista home premium 64-bit OS.
I am almost sure that i will be buying OEM version, but i just heard that once you install it on one mother board, you cannot 'transfer' to other motherboards.
but what if I wanted to re-install vista on the same motherboard?
will it let me re-install it completely?
or will i have to buy another OS?
Vista EULA is the same as Windows XP. If you have an OEM Vista 64 disk installed on a system and you update the MB or other hardware and have to reload the OS, you may have to call the 800 to activate Vista 64, the same as you would with XP.
i believe that you could go ahead and install and have no problems without calling the 800 number. I believe when you activate your oem copy of vista, M$ makes a profile of the system that it is activated on so that it is associated with that system. Correct me if i am wrong. But if you have to replace a mobo, do to a faulty mobo or an electrical problem ie.. thunderstorm, you would have to call and get them to release the key to use again. I could be completely off but i believe that is the way it goes.
