Ubuntu will not boot after new install

OK I am a linux nubie. I just installed ubuntu 10.10 on a boot drive wiping windows off of it. Now it will not boot!I am running on the live cd right now

I'm having the same problem. when comes the time to boot a black screen appears and stacks there .PLEASE HELP!!!

Try re-burning the live cd at a slower speed. I have burned a few bad linux cds. When Ubuntu boots and asks if you want to install or try ubuntu, There should be an option to check the cd for defects. More information would help.
