There must be hundreds of these threads, but I now need to vent my anger at the ridiculous state of vista.
So I have what I like to consider a fairly nice rig, that is a E6600, 3gb ram (1gb doesn't work, pro-tip: don't buy from microdirect), an 8800, and a Striker extreme motherboard with 3x500gb's and a 150 raptor, the latter which has no value when you say you're running vista.
So I've just reinstalled the whole system and applied service pack 1 (mind I had to get it myself!)
And I now get no more than 3MB/s tranfer from 1 drive to the other.
It's not even funny, I have several huge files I want to move, and now wonder what can be done.
The final straw when I was trying to install office, (onto the raptor) and copy a 4gb backup file from 500gb E to 500gb D.
And the system locked up.
So what do I Do?!?!?
Install linux! Oh my yes, let's install linux, after all that's what I use at uni.
Hey look 8.04 is out, it will have KDE4 with it, it'll be just like vista, without the anal.
Oh wait not, Can't connect to the internet, DHCP, Static, manual configuration, It's just too much.
We can build a gigantic underground masterpiece to fire particles into each other, and generate Terabytes of data, and draw conclusions from it.
But we cannot copy a 4gb file from one drive to another at a reasonable rate, this remains one of computer sciences biggest challenges.
OH GOD WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE!?
I'm going to buy a very large cake tommorow. I'm going to eat it. I'm going to enjoy it. F*** computers and their retarded operating systems for one day.

So don't say you're running Vista... say you're running XP. Problem solved.
