I recently installed an Asus A8N-VM motherboard to solve some problems I was having with a flaky Abit one.

Question:

Sometimes (about half of the time) when the machine restarts/is turned on, it doesn't POST, beep, and the display remains in standby. All of the other times, it POST's normally and boots/operates fine. What would cause something like this?

Also, my temps/voltages seem much higher than they did w/ my old Mobo; other than the Mobo, my setup has not changed.

Specs:

AMD A64 S939x2 3800+
2 GB Corsair ValueRAM
FSP 450W PSU
GeForce 6800gs
ASUS A8N-VM

temps and voltages are most likely affected by each mobo's power regulation circuits and the way that BIOS was written.

IMHO, whether the CMOS battery is low or even dead will have no effect on temp/voltage readings of the mobo.

CMOS-ROM is designed with defaults to make it work nondependent on the battery, the battery only maintains changes to the default settings.

I think the non-posting problem is related to something else, possibly memory.
