Just got my computer put together and installed ubuntu 10.10.... my wireless adapter still hasnt came in yet so i was going to try to connect it to the internet through a laptop running windows xp. Ive connected other computers to the internet this way that use vista, but none that run ubuntu... are there any settings that i need to change in ubuntu for it to work? It says it connected but it cant open any pages.

hmmm..... i had this problem but i switched to MINT for a few months (everything worked) and when i returned to ubuntu the wireless worked, i have no idea how. If you find out the name and model number of your wifi card i could lend you a hand there

If you're running ICS then it should just be plug in and go. How do you have this configured? If you could give us a few details of the layout we should be able to get it working.
