More about printer compatible linux
  1. Here's a thread that shows how to get that printer working with Ubuntu. If that's not appropriate for you then it may help if you say which distribution you are using.
  2. This site
    http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Epson/Epson-SX218_Series
shows the Epson SX218 seies as compatable.
Register and check if you like.

    Please see this, as well

    hi ijack

is the detail below that you require:-

    Linux version 2.6.27-desktop-0.rc8.2mnb (pterjan@klodia.mandriva.com) (gcc version 4.3.1 20080626 (prerelease) (GCC) ) #1 SMP Thu Oct 2 06:11:56 EDT 2008
  4. Here's a link from Epson for drivers for that printer.
  5. In the future, HP printers would be a good option :)
  6. This site might also help anyone looking for a printer: Linux-compatible printers. I agree with randomizer; I have an HP deskjet and it works great with Ubuntu.
  7. +1. HP printers just work.
  8. Yes, HP printers seem to have great Linux support. When I installed Ubuntu over a year ago I was expecting to be able to print to my HP Officejet all-in-one without any hassles, but I was pleasantly surprised that the scanner and fax also worked without any tweaks at all!
  9. I gave up on HP printers (no fault of Linux- just constant problems) and have Brothers, and no issues whatsoever. Plug in, done. Had to actually install drivers for Windows.

    EXAMPLE How2

I use Canon PIXMA iP2700 series (see image, noting the URL in address line)

    " class="img lazy">

This is for Debian- and ubuntu-based distros. I'm using peppermint, here.
http://localhost:631 opens up CUPS, which will ask for your username and password in order to proceed. If your printer is USB, choose the USB-designated option CUPS will give you after "searching for printer"

    Best wishes!

Cartridge cost is the only issue, :o otherwise HP Rocks. :sol:
