Updates while shutting down problem

In an effort to speed up my shut down time I screwed around with some reg settings. The result is that now when given the option to "shut down and install updates" the system starts to shut down, begins installing the updates but then just kills the process after a period of time. I used tweaks suggested here http://www.lockergnome.com/windows [...] down-time/ (except for the last one). Any idea which is the one i need to retweak? Thanks
