2x sata2 160 gig drives with xp on both
Turn on pc, enter bios, set boot priority to optical drive, F10 to save
insert vista home prem 64 bit, press key to boot from disk
windows loads files, windows does something else
blue background textured as a desktop background i presume appears with mouse pointer arrow
after that? nothing

I can freely move the mouse pointer, when I get to this background the dvd drive specifically stops spinning the disk, and it just stays like that until I realize nothing else is gona happen and i restart.

I currently have xp home set on both drives, hard drives and dvd rw's are connected through sata, its enabled
system specs:
am2 6400+
4x 1g ocz ati ddr2 800mhz
sapphire 3650 512 gddr3
mobo Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3
Sound blaster X-fi Xtreme gamer (imagine that was the problem somehow)
psu OCZ 450W modstream

There is nothing that overheats in my pc, trust me...
everything is stated vista certified specific, except for psu

Is it because i lamely have to format the drive before I bother installing cause somehow it wont work since im going from 32 bit to 64? Or cause 32bit xp drivers are installed on the board? i dono...
I dont care what happens to the hd's other than frying them, evrything is backed up, i have an mx1000 and logitech g15 connected via usb

thank you

Do you have a different optical drive available?? I'd try swapping that out first.

I tried that regardless of my outcome, turns out my drive is screwed, so it took literallt a bit over 14 minutes for the instalation to commence, then when selecting which partition to install windows in, is stated my hard drive was bad and irrepairable. This is strange since xp was working on it just fine. Anyways, since i had 2, vista is installed and running 100%, thank you for your reply
