In msconfig/startup tab now appears hundreds of new lines besides the normal 5 programs that used to appear.
Here is an example of the new lines that appear:
changer \changer.sys Common Startup
charmap \charmpa.exe Common Startup
chlogon \chglogon.exe Common Startup
chkdsk \chkdsk.exe Common Startup
chkntfs \chkntfs.exe Common Startup
There are many, many lines like the above.
I don't know what changed or what happened.
Is there a way to hide these entries?
Maybe something changed to have them appear.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Odd, I have never seen anything like it.
The ones you listed are all Windows applications (ones that often start with Windows) but they normally do not show in the msconfig startup tab...
They are all Windows XP applications, and are needed to run XP properly.
So far so good.
The problem is this: why do they all appear in msconfig/startup?
How to revert back to good old days when you only see a handful of the startup programs that you really do want to start at boot up.
In other words, how to stop all these hundreds of entries from appearing?
As nobody here has been able to help me, I also posted my probelm at the following site, with a snapshot of my msconfig/startup:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r2 [...] ig-startup I wonder if a Microsoft MVP is reachable and can help me with this very unusual problem.
I searched for a long time all over the Internet for this issue, and unfortunately I found nothing.
I wonder if Bill Gates visits here.
This isue has been a real challenge.
I found and fixed the problem.
Up untill now, 78 people have viewed my post here, and nobody has been able to fix it.
I can understand why, as it is a unique issue.
I have posted my fix here:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r2 [...] ig-startup I am happy of finding my fix, and now if anyone else experiences this same issue, they can easily fix it.
