Probably the software used in the attempt to confine anti matter in the particle
accelerator at C.E.R.N. in Switzerland

There are 2 types of very expensive software: highly reliable ones (you would be surprised at how much more a 99.99% availability software can cost over a 99.9% one) and very badly scoped ones. For the later, the development will last years because the requirements were badly defined and people will spend most of their time re-writing stuff they though they had made right (and they probably did ... based on bad specifications).
