4GB + ram issue on windows xp 32 bit os

I just bought a system with 6GB of physical RAM in it. The BIOS posts 6GB, but Windows tells me that I have anywhere from 3.25GB of RAM. Where is the rest of my RAM? it even shows that there is 6gb of ram in the system ifo.

no i upgraeded the ram from 1 gb tp 6gb

or will the system perform fast or will use only 4 gb. coz it seems to be faster than before

i am happy now, i opgraded the os to windows xp 64bit
and i am getting full 6gb of ram
