I'm having so many issues with the new Sound Control system, first of all... Alot of my devices say "Unavalible" or "Currently Unavalible" and I realise that the devices need to be plugged in, for them to show up as Avalible, but for devices such as "What you hear" you don't plug them in. They're loopback control... I read somewhere that vista removed the ability to use HAL compatible devices in vista, which btw was not true at all because I recently got updated drivers for my X-FI Fata1ity from soundblaster.com and now the device works fine....
But whats up with the "Per-Application" Volume Control? I use multiple soundcards, and the reasons I swiched to vista is because I often create multimedia like videos, webpages, images, sound, documents and other things of that sort.. The resource usage in vista is much more efficent, I don't have to reboot to dump my memory usage anymore! horah!
But one thing I can't do anymore is record from 2 sound devices at once! If I set my primary soundcard to record "Line-In" on SB-XFI while I try to talk on Ventrilo using my other HDAD sound card Ventrilo gives "This Device is already in use or is already open" etc....
I would like the old XP Sound Control where I could select Default Devices on Seperate Sound Devices.... Does anyone know where or if this is possible? 3erd party programs maybe? Apparently you can't record with 2 devices at once which was the entire point of me getting 3 soundcards in the first place
"Per Application" LOL When exacally is it that you cant use individual volume controls ever application that I use has its own built-in Volume Control anyways such as games, media players etc...
- THERE IS NO RUN! "Windows+R The hidden System Functions of the past!"
- FILEINDEXING - wow..... I often have to search folders myself to find the files that I want, even if I add the location to the index, it wont show up untill I browse there myself...
But overall windowsVista is a godsent from a resource perspective, design perspective, and even gaming perspective alowing me to optimize my 8 gigs of ram and QuadCore CPU - From a Sound Development standpoint I'm about to swich to XP64 simply because of this HHOOORRRIBLE Sound Control system that they use... Sure I could use an individual software control pannel for each device setting default to each device, but in that case I'd have to run 3 seperate programs to control one feature of my system... Thats just rediculus...
I remember back in the day when people only had 16 megs of ram, installed WindowsME and said "oh my gosh my system is Soooo Slowww" well duh first of all.. using 16 megs of ram on an operating system that REQUIRES 16 megs you gotta expect something, you can't just buy a computer and expect the software do do all the upgrading for you... Hardware and Software go hand-in-hand....
But, to be honest with you I'm really sick of people saying that 'Vista Sucks' because it dosent.. Its nearly exacally the same as XP theres a few changes here and there... Some compatibility issues with some older software, and hardware.. But come on.. its old stuff, anything new should definatly work with vista, if not just RIGHT CLICK THE PROGRAM GOTO PROPERTIES AND "Run in XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility Mode" wow... its not hard for real...
Its the same thing with XP and XP64... Hard to get drivers for a 64 bit platform, but who cares new systems are shipping with Vista you're GOING to see the streamline become Vista within the next 2 years garenteed, if you have new hardware, you're definatly going to get drivers compatible with these systems, so people who don't have a 64 bit Processor with 4gigs+Ram need not apply... End of story... if you have any hardware older then 2 years old UPGRADE IT....
These are the only problems I've ever ran into with Vista
- No Run in the start menu (Who cares Windows+R)
- Sound Control Absolutly worth the downgrade to XP64 while running multiple sound devices at once
- Windows+F (or Seach) function FileIndexing Definatly not as good as it used to be, but maybe I'm just using it wrong.....
PLEASE HELP ~ I need to be able to use multiple Device Recording... I use my system as a Gaming System, AudioStudio, Graphic Editing and Much Much More... This New Windows Volume Control IS DRIVING ME MENTAL!!!!!
I just recently used a Java Runtime script to decompile a half-life 2 map so that I could edit it... for example... i use netstat and tracert almost daily
