reason why i ask this is because when playing a DVD movie i can't get any sound! now i have set up a friend's PC (store bought) that has vista 32-bit on it and he can play movies just fine with no issues at all.

does anyone have any info concerning this? but more importantly a fix?

please help you all because this is the only issue i have for this OS and it's getting on my nerves. a friend with a lesser vista setup than mine and he's the one running in absolute perfection and i'm not! this stinks!

does your computer not play sound at all? or just when you watch dvd movies?

1) if you're computer doesn't play any sound at all, check in the hardware manager to make sure the soundcard drivers are installed properly, or try reinstalling the driver all together.

2) if you are just missing sound when you play dvds, make sure your dvd software is not set to output to the digital output (i'm assuming you're using regular speakers). also, check your sound mixer to be sure that the volumes for each of the devices is turned up.

hope that helps.

figured it out with a little help from you! looked in playback under the sound icon (in the task bar) and changed it from digital audio interface to speakers is all.

under my nose the whole time, but never tried it until now.

hope this would help someone else out there if needed!

thanks for your help pinaplex!
