I'm not really sure what to do.

Has anyone been in this situation before? I don't know what to say if I called microsoft, the serial number is on the disc which is lost. The only proof of purchase I have is the bill from the store.

Then take your rig with the product key on it to your local computer repair store, show it to them and explain the situation and ask them if they,ll burn you an installation disk for the OP/SYS listed on the sticker, normally they'll do it and only charge you for the CD and the time to burn it, about 5 to 10 bucks.

Hi.. you can borrow xp cd from your friends/neighbors... If you already have the Key, you are not assigned to use one CD... You can use any XP Cd with your key to install it...

Not quite true. You need to use a Windows CD that matches the Product Key sticker. If you have a Windows XP OEM Home key, you need to same CD.
