Netgear wireless adapter causing 100% cpu spikes..and other things.

Hi guys. im having problems with my new wireless network. the main computer that has the internet connection is a 2.6g duo core with 2 g ram and a 108mps netgear wireless router (wtg624v3) attached running vista 32bit. the other computer is a p1.6 with 512 megs ram and has a netgear 56mps wireless pci adapter (wg311v3) running windows xp. they are approx 30 feet apart and the same floor of the house. i have updated the drivers for the router, the pci card and installed the printer dirvers on both computers. also both computers do show up in the network map. Here are the problems:

- the p1.6 is experiencing 100%cpu usage spikes over and over when the netgear software is open. the software you use to connect to the router. as soon as i turn off the netgear software this stops but then the connection gets spotty and tends to disconnect. this even happens when just netgear icon is in the taskbar

- the p1.6 shows both the netgear wireless connection icon and the windows network connections icon in the taskbar, is this normal?

- i have a hp officejet 6310xi all in one printer attached through usb to the duo core but i cannot get the p1.6 to see it on the network. i have share printer selected on the duo core and in the printer properties.

any ideas on how to fix this stuff? ive been trying to get the printer to work on the p1.6 for three days now and ive read everything i can on it and nothing seems to help.
