Unable to load control panel

Last response: in Windows Vista

Hi,

I am unable to load control panel. Everything else on my computer seems to be working fine. Internet, my computer, ect. ect.

But for some reason Control panel wont load. When I click on it, a blank window appears for about 10 seconds, then closes by itself.

I have done multiple spyware and virus scans so I don't think that's a problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Likely your registry is hosed. Have you run any registry repair or cleaner on the system? That would do it. Try a system restore. If that doesn't work, save all you important data and reinstall the OS.

What program would you recommend I use?

If you have already run a Registry Repair program, that is the likely reson for the Control Panel being corrupted. Are you using Vista 32 or vista 64?

I have had the same thing happen. The control panel was not accessible due to a registry repair progam I ran. This happened twice. On the first occasion, I was able to do a system restore and recovery access to my Control panel. The second time, I had to reinstall the OS.

Every time I try a system restore this happens:

The Writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. (0x800423F3)

Edit: I'm using vista 64 bit.

Sorry for the double post.

Few register cleaners are tested with Vista 64. You likely hosed your registry. A clean install was my only solution.

Ouch. Have you tried running it in 'safe mode'?

I have tried to load folders onto a flash drive but the 3 DCIM options options that I had been using are missing from the MY Computer page. Any suggestions for fixing this. Thanks

Try to use system file checker.

Click windows Icon

Type cmd in the search box

Right click on it, then select Run as administrator

Next you’ll type in this command:

sfc /scannow

Also download and run Malwarebytes.

This looks like a bigger system problem. You may need to reinstall. If it was just the control panel not coming up you could reconfigure the software licensing service like here http://annoyances-resolved.blogspot.com/2009/11/vista-c... but it seems to me it is a bigger system problem. Tell us what happened.
