Windows XP Installation Reboots

I attempted to install Windows XP and the computer restarts during the initial set up. I swapped out the hard drive, cd roms, to no avail.

I then attempted to install Ubuntu Linux. That successfully installed, and the computer runs fine, with no random reboots.

Any ideas on what the issue could be?

You could try wiping the HDD of all previous data including old boot records using a HDD diagnostic utility you can download from the HDD manufacturers website, [IE: LLF (Low Level Format, Disk Wipe, Zero Fill Etc.)] and afterward maybe clear and reset the CMOS settings, before reinstalling the OP/SYS.

That should give you a clean error free reinstall.
