I have a Vista notebook that stops checking the NTFS partition when I use chkdsk /f (or the disk check tool). On reboot it starts checking and then it just sits there forever before it gets very far.

I want to remove the drive and check it in another box. The other box I have is XP. Can the XP box check the NTFS partition from my Vista notebook?

Thanks

You should be able to if the drive was formatted in XP. XP & Vista uses the same version of NTFS by default.
