When playing a DVD which contains closed captions, will any TV sets
display the captions when playing with a 480p input? If so, can you
cite any which will?

Modern sets, of course, generally do this just fine with a 480i input.

Just to restate the obvious--this issue relates to closed captions,
not to subtitles.

I don't know... it all depends on the deinterlacing method used by the DVD
player. Unless of course, the DVD is progressive scan to start with. In
that case it's up to the video production team.

It also depends on whether or not your television sends the 480p signal
through the closed caption processing chip. Alot of TV sets don't do
this.

Well the only one I know for sure that does is the Mitsubishi 65"
widescreen diamond series like my dad has. Never tried it on anything
else. I would assume that most other Mitsubishis also do it, but I can't
say for sure.
