When I go to do a clean install of vista 64bit, I just get the start screen and I am able to move my cursor around but that's about it. This is before anything is actually installed.

mobo: Biostar TP43D2-A7 (latest bios)
ES.2 Barracuda HD
E8500 CPU
MUSHKIN 1066 ram

I dunno what else you guys need to help me with. Thanks for any info.

Someytimes if you have more then 4 megs of ram it won't install. you have to just have 2 megs and then install the rest later.

Yeah I only have 2GB of ram.

Couple things you can try:

1) Make sure your optical drive is set to IDE mode in the bios.

2) (if available) attach your optical drive to a different port

3) Try a different optical drive

I'm assuming you mean to use an IDE optical drive? I'm currently using a SATA. I tried an IDE but the same thing happened. (not sure if I had bios set it to IDE) but will try soon.

you have most likely tried, but have a shot at leaving it for ages.
I did a clean install on my brothers pc just the other day and we had to leave it literally for an hour and it came good.

As I recall there is a VERY long delay at that point, even normally. So yea, do try to wait it out at least 10 minutes or so.

What video card are you using?

this happened to me too, after freaking out and searching the web for hours my g/f insisted that i leave it on and eat lunch. It took 15 minutes until the next screen came up and I'm still having to hear her talk about out smarting the computer expert. (my computer has 4gigs of ram)
