Well they were right in doing so. This article doesn't say that it will be out by the end of the year. It may very well take a full year or two for it to come out. As of now, crysis is the most graphics intense game that takes advantage of dx10 the most. However, even crysis doesn't take advantage of dx 10 to its fullest potential. Why? Most of today's gpus are hard pressed to handle crysis, let alone something more intense. If dx 11 does come out, then it would be premature IMO since today's gpus simply aren't powerful enough.

I doesn't say it will not be out by the end of the year... Anyway Direct X 10 differences wasnt that great over 9 for games..

Hopefully the new API will balance this as X 10 has been a disapointment to say the least, anyway by then maybe vista only games will more frequent as XP is being dropped..

The reason why "Direct X 10 differences wasnt that great over 9 for games.." is that we are getting to the point of diminishing marginal returns. In previous years, new versions of direct x were much more common and there were much more noticeable improvements. Microsoft will not be releasing new versions of the api since there are fewer ways in which it can improve. Also, remember that we still have not seen dx 10 in all its glory. I already said that the reason for this is that the gpus simply aren't powerful enough. In order to play crysis at max setting, you need to spend a ridiculous sum of money on hardware. And even that doesn't FULLY take advantage of crysis. It's very possible that dx 11 may come out AFTER windows 7. We really don't need dx 11 yet. Direct x 10 just isn't ready to die yet.
