Multiple firewire host controllers

I just moved the jumpre on my ASUS PC-DL Deluxe to turn on my firewire (never need it in the last 5 years) and I have a problem. XP did the Found New Hardware routine, but it installed about 40 1394 Host Controllers instead of 1. About 35 of them are inoperable (yellow warning triangle in hardware manager) due to limited resources but none of them actually work as my computer can't see my camcorder. I tried disabling all but one, but as soon as I get to one of the "active" host contollers them trying to disable or uninstall that hangs the system - I have managed to disable all the inoperable ones. Any ideas.
