Hello,

I understand from this article http://aumha.org/win5/a/wpa.htm that if I change my Mobo / CPU (but keep same HDD/GFX/CD/Ram size) I will lose too many category votes and wont be able to re-activate because the NIC is 3 votes, IDE / CPU / CPU Serial is another 3. If I buy another NIC and intall it now and wait 120 days will I then be able to upgrade the motherboard and CPU if I transfer the NIC? Anyone know if this has been done? I am using Windows XP Pro 64 incase that makes a difference.

thanks in advance

Stephen

After installing the new hardware you mentioned, when prompted to call the 800 number during activation, call the number and explain you installed new hardware and are using the software on the CD on just the one computer when asked. M$ support will give you a one time activation key and activate your software.

I forgot to mention its an OEM version. Will they still give out an activation key?

OEM is not a problem getting an activation key as long as when asked, you tell M$ support the software is installed on only one computer.

Welcome. I have many Windows XP OEM CD's. I have no problem getting a one time activation key when I change hardware and reinstall the OS. You are welcome.
