Just wondering if I have an infected OS with vundo virus, would it be easier and quicker to get rid of it by just doing a new system reinstall and all my software?

That is usually the only way to make sure you get rid of the virus completely. Before loading Windows, you should try and grab a utility to zero the drive completely. This way all data is completely wiped from the drive and you can be relatively sure you've wiped all traces of the virus from it.
