My hard disk recently crashed and I replaced it with a new one. I reinstall the OS and other applications exactly the same way and I notice that Vista at times freezes (noticable by observing the mouse pointer). Like during the start up when there is lots of access to the hard disk. Or whenever the DVD drive is being read. I also observe that during these freezes, the CPU load is max'ed out and so is the HDD load (my pc configuration is at my signature below).
I believe that all my drivers are the most updated ones, together with the Windows components.
I am kind of running out of ideas here. Could someone offer me something to work on? Cheers.
PS. I am using Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

------------------------------Games that I love: SC, WC3, The Sims 2, Sam & Max Season 1, and World of Warcraft. My humble system: Intel C2Q Q9450@2.66GHz, 4GB RAM, nVidia 8800GT. Games I wish I have the talent to complete: Doom 3, Civ 4, SupComm, Bioshock, TDU ...
Can you pin point on a process? How is the HD activity?
Is there a disk in your DVD drive? (Bad media can create symptoms you describe)
4 now you can try few simple things (eject the disk, if you have one, reset bios, disconnect your optical drive, and network resources if you have any.)
