I am going to build a new computer soon and will be using Vista for the 1st time. As I will be using a SATA harddisk, I want to make sure I get the installation procedure right. For WinXP installation, one needs to press F6 during installation when it asks for the driver. And I recall that I had to use a floppy for this purpose.
How about Vista now? Has Vista got the SATA drivers already inside it now so that I dont have to prepare a floppy ahead?
Also, I think, for WinXP, SATA drivers are, sort of, combined with the RAID and AHCI drivers. For this new build, I dont plan to use RAID, but I do plan to use NCQ.
What should I do about this during Vista installation?
Thanks for any other hints or tips about Vista installation.
Don't try to solve a problem before you got one...Just run the vista installation and you will do fine..if you want to be sure you can post your new computer hardware specs.
Good Luck
Whether or not you needed to load drivers depended on your motherboard more so than XP. As long as you weren't using RAID, you didn't need to load drivers via F6 so long as your motherboard supported "IDE" mode for SATA drives.
For Vista, I didn't even need to load drivers for my RAID... it saw the array and installed without issue. I'm pretty sure you won't have to worry about loading any extra drivers since you're not using RAID.
