Hi, I have been having headache with this strange arp table in windows vista. My computer connects to the internet through wireless router. The address for the router is 192.168.0.1. When I type arp -a in command window, it shows the following arp table:

Interface: 192.168.0.2
Internet address physical address type
192.168.0.1 00-09-5b-b1-a0-0e dynamic
192.168.0.1 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static
224.0.0.22 01-00-5e-00-00-16 static
224.0.0.252 01-00-5e-00-00-fc static
239.255.255.250 01-00-5e-7f-ff-fa static
255.255.255.255 ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff static

I can understand there should be an entry for my router address which is 192.168.0.1. But what I don't understand is why I have other entries. Is my computer under any sort of attack? I would appreciate if someone can give me an answer. Thanks in advance.

Has it always been this way under Vista? If so, it's probably nothing to be concerned with.

When I had windows xp, there was only one arp entry (192.168.0.1). With windows vista, there are always more than one entries even if I use arp -d to clear the arp table. I am a bit nervous about this because my ebay password was somehow leaked a few months ago, and I still have no idea how this happened.

Well I can confirm the one entry with XP, but I don't have my Vista machine handy for comparison. I'll give it a try when I get a chance and post my results.

Well looking at my wireless card properties there is now (in vista) an IPv4 connection and an IPv6 connection. My guess is it has something to do with that.

I've been too lazy to read up on it.

Just did a quick search on google, those address seem to be used for multicasting or broadcasting.

At least someone has the similar arp table, I think it might be just another vista's exclusive "feature" :p
