This just started a few days ago.

Vista Ult with Office 07.

All Office updates fail with this error message: Windows Update error 80070643

M$ says that it is the Office Service Engine and while there was nothing wrong with it, I did follow their instructions to supposedly fix the issue.

Still can't install any Office updates, now have 12 updates, including Sp2, waiting to install.

Even uninstalled Office, reinstall and same error.

Any ideas.

I had the error as well. I had to do to things to solve it.

1) Make sure you have a good amount of space on drive C. You'll get this error even if it has nothing to do with space. I had <1GB remaining.

2) Search for "services" in the Start menu search and open it. Scroll until you find the Office Source Engine service and start it. Make sure it isn't disabled either, but should be on the "Manual" startup type.

Try running the update again.

Plenty of space left, 75 gigs.

I've tried setting it to Manual, Automatic (delayed Start) as M$ says but it's still no go.

Even tried doing the updates manually but it still fails.

Did you actually start the service yourself? That's what I did.
